Bicycle Accidents
RSMo. Section 307.188 states that “every person riding a bicycle or motorized bicycle upon a street or highway shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle.” Cyclists and motorcyclists know they have the right to travel the highways, but also that they are not as visible as the standard automobile or truck. I am a cyclist, and enjoy getting out on the road. If you have ridden our local Missouri highways 11, 6, 3, etc… you understand the value of “environmental awareness.” Some areas of the country simply are not use to the “cycling” culture, or the terrain simply makes these individuals harder to see at a sufficient distance. Cycling and motorcycle accidents typically arise from a motorist’s failure to concentrate on the road, or the motorist’s failure to see a two wheeled vehicle when they are looking for a much larger one. Unfortunately, given the speed and lack of safety equipment, these accidents can result in serious physical injury or death.
